Bellyminded’s Top 3 Toronto Restaurants for an Amazing Dinner Out!

I’m so happy that my first post is a top 3!

Why you may ask?

Well, we’ve all had the task of planning an amazing night that involves a great dinner. Toronto is a great city with an abundance of restaurants. However, it’s not easy picking the perfect restaurant for your special celebration.

Here are 3 special occasion restaurants where the food is the main attraction, giving you different cuisine options and price points!

The restaurants on this list are suitable for a special occasion, like an anniversary  or birthday or when you really want to impress someone! Be ready to splurge with your wallet but it will totally be worth it!

1. Yasu

This pick is for all the sushi lovers! The restaurant with its small number of seats and simple decor reminds me a little bit of the sushi places in Japan. Equally as straightforward is the menu, which offers omakase, the chef’s choice of 18 pieces of sushi, plus dessert, for $80 per person. The staff explains each dish as it is brought out. The fish is fresh and each piece fits into the mouth nicely. They also have a nice selection of sake and wines. Remember to savour each piece of fresh and delicious sushi! Note that it’s not easy to get a reservation here because the place is small so you will may have to book 2 or 3 weeks in advance.

2. Buca Restaurant on King

Buca on King West delivers delicious Italian comfort food with poise and elegance, not to be confused with their 2 other locations, one being an Italian style snack bar and the other having a more seafood focus. The original location is the place to go for pizza and pasta dishes using decadent ingredients, like truffles and it offers a variety of cheese and meats. My favourite pasta dish is called the Bigoli, made with duck offal and mascarpone. It’s rich and flavourful, a dish I like to share although you could easily finish it by yourself! The restaurant has a rustic vibe with soft lighting and high ceilings. To get an ideal time to dine, book a reservation at least 1 week in advance and you’ll be in for an evening of great food and service.

3. George Restaurant
You will enjoy fine dining at its finest at George. This place offers a traditional experience in that the ambience is achieved with professional waiters and a proper place setting rather than ultra modern and lux decor. The French food is inventive, fresh and beautifully plated using local ingredients. You can choose to order individual dishes off the menu but I would recommend going with one of their tasting menus to experience this restaurant fully. I tried the 7 course tasting menu and was definitely more than full when it was over. I recommend going when the weather is warm so that you can request a table on the patio. The atmosphere in the evening on the patio is romantic and really sets the mood for whatever occasion you are celebrating. When dining here, I couldn’t help but feel like it was a once in a lifetime experience so definitely save this place for a very special occasion.
